Q. What happens if I lose the door key?
A. You will be given details of a neighbour where a spare set of keys are kept
Q. I am staying for two weeks and require a change of linen and/or towels after one week?
A. Leave all dirty linen in a black bag, outside the front door, in the green box by 10.00am every Sat. There is a spare set of lined under in the double divan bed storage drawers. This means you will not be disturbed during your stay.
Q. Can I use the bikes at the cottage?
A. Yes a key for the padlock can be found in the set of house keys. However the owner will take no responsibility for injury caused by using these bikes. Furthermore, on Arran everything is generally safe to leave outside without padlocks but it is the users responsibility to return the bike in the same state at the end of the holiday.
Q. I have a pet, can they stay?
A. With prior permission this is usually OK. Dog(s)/Cat(s) usually incur an additional charge of ?5 per night. Letting them sleep in the sunroom is a good idea as the laminated floor is easy to clean and at night they can remain there by shuting the door to the lounge. At no time are pets allowed on beds or sofas (unless covers are supplied) and all fouling in the garden etc should be disposed of.
Q. What facilities are there for washing and drying?
A. Within the cottage is a washing machine which uses biological powder/liquid as it feeds into a septic tank. Drying can be achieved in the sunroom using a drying rack, outside in the front garden using a cloths line located in the cupboard. For inclement weather a tumble dryer is located outside the back door in the green box accessed using a padlock key located in the house keyring. An isolater switch located in the kitchen below the window should be switched on.
Q. What shower and bath facilities are there?
A. Two toilets are located in the cottage. A shower room with hot water from the mains tank and a bathroom with an electric shower over the bath. Please note that the hot water is turned on automatically each day, however if additional hot water is required please turn the booster switch located in the hall to 2 hours which should be sufficient.
Q. What bedding facilities are there?
A. The cottage comfortably sleeps 8. Bedroom 1 is a twin bedroom; Bedroom 2 is a single bed with another pull up single bed to make a double; Bedroom 3 is a double bedroom and Bedroom 4 is the lounge where the 3 seater sofa converts to a king size sofa bed with an additional mattress. In addition there are 2 sleeping bags located in the sofa stool in the lounge.
Q. What garden facilities are there?
A. The front garden can be used to pitch a tent (not supplied). The back garden has outside furniture to admire the sea or valley views. An easy pull up gazebo is located in the tall storage box. Furthermore, a charcoal BBQ is located in the smaller storage box. The garden is fenced but the drive is open to the road but this does not have passing traffic and is very quiet.
Q. What AV facilities are there?
A. Satellite TV is available as well as DVD/Video playback with large selection of videos in the cottage. A micro HI-FI playing CDs and I-Pods in located in the lounge and a DAB radio/alarm clock is located in the kitchen.
Q. How do I turn on the heating?
A. There is storage heaters in each room. For Spring/Summer where a top up heat is required please use the convection switch located on each heater. For Autumn/Winter some storage heaters will be on, by pressing the switch on the wall adjacent to each heater. For additional heating, turn on additional heaters. Note please do not alter the setting of the controls for input/output heat of each storage heater and always turn any convection heaters of after use. Smoke detectors are located in each room for safety. In Autumn 2009 a log-burning stove is being fitted in the lounge.
Q. How do I dispose of refuge?
A. Our house keeper will put the bin at the end of the drive each Saturday for collection on the Tuesday. After this day please put the bin next to the log store. A black bin is for general refuge and a blue bin is for recycled refuge, which is collected on alternative weeks.
Q. What medical facilities are there?
A. The cottage has a first aid book and kit. The local village of Whiting Bay has a GP and the next village, Lamlash has a cottage hospital with A&E.
Q. What storage facilities are there?
A. Internally each bedroom has a cupboard. Externally there are storage areas for golf clubs, bike covers, footwear and toys etc.,
Q. What kitchen facilities are there?
A. There is a fully fitted modern kitchen in the cottage including microwave, fridge/freezer etc. with a breakfast table is located in the kitchen adjacent to the window overlooking the Glenashdale valley. There is also a dining table in the sun lounge which extends in the middle and seats eight people. There are local stores selling food with the Co-op supermarket located in Brodick and Asda located at the Ardrossan Ferry Terminal on the mainland.
Q. What amenities are close by?
A. The beach, bus stop, bar, coffee pot, are 5 min walks and the village shops and golf club are 10-15min walks.
